Srinagar, Oct 14 (KNO): In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Court of Special Judge NDPS, Srinagar, Tuesday convicted two notorious drug smugglers in a case under FIR number 19/2021 under section 8/22, 29 NDPS Act, 420, 468, 471 IPC of Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir (ANTF Kashmir).
The duo includes Mudasir Sultan Bhat @ Majid, son of Mohd. Sultan, resident of Sir Syed Abad Sector-1 Bemina, Srinagar, and Feroz Ahmad Khan @ Jaja, son of Ab. Samad Khan, resident of Muslim Abad Nundareshi Colony, Bemina, Srinagar.
The Court awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,00,000 each on the convicts.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the case was registered in 2021 by ANTF Kashmir, following the recovery of a huge consignment of contraband pharmaceutical drugs, including 7500 bottles of Z-REX syrup and one box of Zancavit capsules (960 strips × 10 = 9600 capsules), during an operation in April 2021.
A comprehensive charge sheet spanning 960 pages was produced before the Court of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, on 10.03.2022, after an extensive and evidence-based investigation.
The investigation was meticulously conducted by ANTF Kashmir under the close supervision of SSP ANTF J&K, ensuring a watertight prosecution leading to the conviction of both accused.
The Anti-Narcotics Task Force, J&K, commended the diligent efforts of the investigating team and the prosecution in securing this conviction. This judgement stands as a strong message to drug traffickers and underscores the unyielding commitment of J&K Police towards eradicating the menace of narcotics and safeguarding the community, particularly the youth.
